Our next meeting will be Monday, August 11 at 4pm at COBC. (Fore the rest of the year we’ll meet September 8 & October 13) November 10 falls on a 4 day holiday weekend (and the Oakhurst Retreat??) so we may have to reschedule that one. December is the Christmas Party.
Sandy Barron Duxbury and Heather McAlpine-Barnes are making dinner in August. Thanks to Dawna, Liz and Debbie for a delicious dinner in July!
Next meeting: Bring any BOM’s you may have missed. Let’s finish out the BOM strong! The last BOM (Snail Trail Wave) goes to Angi Nelson Wiggins at the August Meeting.
In August: Bring your Round Robin Center if you want to participate. We decided to do ONE Round Robin – slow track. So far we have Cathy Criger, Sandy Duxbury, Joanie PC, Theresa and Diane signed up. Angi and Robyn are still thinking about it. Bring your center block in a box with any material you would like used in it.
At our July meeting Robyn Thompson won the UFO gift certificate drawing. Congratulations! Ginny Brooks, Peggy Rosler and Cathy Criger won the extra summer baskets provided by Teri Kanallakan. Thanks Teri!
Don’t forget to keep working on your quilts for the extra gift certificate drawing at our Christmas Party. We decided you can show us your Mystery Quilt, I Spy Quilt, Block of the Month Quilt (your colors) or the Block of the Month blocks you won in the drawing made into a quilt. Lots of opportunities to win!
SUMMER MEETING DATES
Our July Meeting will be July 21 at 4pm at COBC – dinner volunteers are Dawna Doeil!, Liz Wolfe! and Debbi Hayward?
At the July Meeting we need to schedule the rest of our meeting dates and get them on the church calendar to reserve the space.
Please check the 2014 Page for our latest updates (don’t check old posts!).
Block of the month!
Congratulations – Teri Kanallakan won the Kansas Dust Storm blocks! – (If you’ve fallen behind, get her your block ASAP – thanks! See note below about other blocks you don’t need to make!)
BOM block change! Since there’s only 2 blocks left to go – – we’ve decided Mary Landon will win next months block and Angi Wiggins will win the final block. For next month’s block we didn’t like the floral corners. Please do your corners in four different solids like example below.
FYI if you’ve fallen behind you DON’T need to make the following blocks:
- Joan Pogon-cord finished her boot quilt already
- Heather McAlpine-Barnes gave away the red, white and blue blocks
- Kim White says she has enough spool blocks to make the quilt she wants.
Round Robin for late 2014
Have any Round Robin samples?? Bring them to the next meeting to share!
It was suggested we start another Round Robin in August when we finish the Block of the Month. We’ve decided to form 2 groups, one Slow Group that exchanges maybe twice before Christmas and one Fast group that exchanges every month. A Round Robin is a serious commitment so think twice about joining – the next person depends on you to finish your border on time so that the exchange can happen in a timely manner. You can’t fall behind on this one. We will explain the procedure in July. You need to provide a center block in a box if you want to join. Your block would be passed around with each lady adding on another border. You could let people add their own fabric or just have them use the fabric you include in your box.
We have decided to do Scrap Therapy in 2015 – Mary is suggesting 1/2 square triangles. Any more ideas?
Congratulations to March winners!
At our last meeting Heather Barnes won the Red, White and Blue Glory is Scraps blocks. Joan Pogon-Cord won our gift certificate for showing a finished UFO quilt. Thanks to Cathy Criger and Diane Cole we had a delicious dinner of chili and salad.
If you are in the Block of the Month group, please get your finished blocks to the winners ASAP. Those who haven’t won blocks yet are : Kim White, Pogie, Teri K, Mary and Angi. Cowboy Boot is next. It is a SIMPLE block. Fun. Easy. No stress. Do it with a light background and have fun with the rest of the boot.
At the March meeting we decided to do June’s Kansas Dust Storm in the colors shown. We want to do the Evening Star block in the brights so to help out with that we’ll have a bright fabric swap in May and June so that everyone can get the colors they need to complete the block shown.
It was suggested we start another Round Robin in August when we finish the Block of the Month – maybe this time dividing into Beginning and Intermediate groups. If we decide to do this, we will explain the procedure and you would need to provide a center block in a box. Your block would be passed around 5-6 rounds with each lady adding on another border. You could let people add their own fabric or just have them use the fabric you include in your box. More at the next meeting. If you have any books on round robins or how to do borders, bring them to share!

Just joining Loose Threads?
In 2014 we are continuing our Block of the Month. Even if you don’t want to participate in Block of the Month, please come and bring your own project to work on.
Dues: We will still be having drawings as prizes for finished UFO’s for those that pay their annual fee of $20 (if you don’t want to be in the drawing you don’t have to pay the $20 – we do it as incentive to make us finish projects). This year the drawings will be monthly – so finish up those unfinished objects and come show them off at our monthly meetings.
Our meetings have changed to the second or third Monday of the month at Country Oaks Baptist Church in the chapel. We begin sewing at 4pm, have dinner between 5:30-6:30pm and finish up just before 8pm. Monthly schedule is online at http://loosethreadstehachapi.wordpress.com/2014-2/
SPECIAL EVENT Mystery Quilt Class
led by Laura Newbry
The Loose Threads invite you to join them in a night of mystery! If you like sewing and making quilts, this evening is for you. On Friday, February 7, 2014 from 4pm to 12am we’ll be sewing, eating, laughing and receiving clues to a quilt throughout the evening and into the night. The quilt top we will be working on will be revealed at 11:45pm. If you want to join the fun, download the prep instructions (link below), buy your fabric and prepare it per the instructions. Then bring your sewing machine, come and enjoy the evening with a great bunch of ladies. If you just want to come and sew on your own projects, that’s fine too.
Bring a plate of snacks to share.
